I think the question here is WHY from 2005-2010 He did not submit a DK KS or MTPO if he could do either BUT if you look back he ran his mouth on a WEEKLY basis about how good he is and was and ALWAYS annouced his time attacks and points records in the mail............

Patrick Scott Patterson about an hour ago near Denton, TX I've been talking a lot as of late about evolving and really shoving that word into everyone's faces. Yeah, it's a brand message that I latched on to after a conversation with a dear friend used the word. But it's not hyperbole. Bear with me through another long Facebook message that will be the last like it for quite some time. Last week I was working on a project that fits that theme. This week I find myself waiting a little bit. I'm between that project and not yet at SXSW, so I've had a little time to think and reflect on a lot. Off and on over the past couple of days I've looked around on Facebook. I've been bad about keeping up with what my friends have been posting about as of late, so I looked around. I also took the first looks in quite some time at the walls of people I haven't talked to in some time now. I see some people who have changed a lot and I see some people who've not changed at all. Sadly, I see some people who are still referencing and even insulting things that happened or were said years ago. I don't get that at all. Hey... people tend to get upset about stuff. I get that. They say things. I get that, too. When I was in the wrestling business there were times I got upset and said some things. When I first left Twin Galaxies I had some things to get off my chest, too. In late 2012, I was very hurt by some things and I lashed out about them. Hey, I'm human. But I got over that stuff. Moved on. At this point in time I guess I fully felt that I really have evolved. Stuff that seemed important to me two... three... four years ago seem so unimportant now. I take a long look at one person in particular and catch up on all they've been saying over the past couple of months. Sure enough, despite my silence on them this person continues to take an allegedly defensive position, failing to realize they are the one doing the attacking. There this person is, continuing to bark about things that never happened, forgetting all the times


NOTE: BY PATRICK I actually took their side and even going personal, insulting my family and lying about my personal life, all while "preparing" to duplicate something I did when I was 14 years old and apparently expecting me to have carried a video camera around in 1989.

This person is seemingly not able to evolve. I thought they had two years ago when they apologized and took back all the nutty conspiracy theory stuff about me, but they swung back around to it all anyway. Yeah, I've said some things back at times (not near as much as I'm claimed to have said) but as I said, I'm human. Hard not to when someone keeps screaming nonsense about you. I'm not this person's enemy. Never have been. No matter what they claim, I've never done anything to stand in their way and am not doing so now. Not even on the same roads in life. I can only conclude that this person only paints me as his enemy because it's an easy excuse for him. Or he's batshit crazy. Maybe both. Perhaps if this person doesn't care for how I do business... despite not having a clue as to what it is I do... they should simply stop looking this way. Pretty easy to not look at something. There's stuff I don't look at every day. Move on, boy. I have. There's a lot more important things in life out there than words from years ago or scores on old video games that few remember. It is unfortunate that anyone would live their life insisting that someone else is their enemy when the person they paint that way doesn't consider anyone to be theirs. I shook hands with everyone who wanted to do so at the Kong Off 3. Made me glad to go and mend fences with a lot of people like that. I followed it by wiping my block list here, though I notice some of those people have gone and blocked me now, despite once complaining that I'd done so. Again, I was hurt and emotional about some things. I moved on. I guess they haven't. I'm not sure if I should feel good about evolving to the point where I have been able to put down that big back of rocks and say with conviction that I have no grudges anymore... that I've seen what is actually worth latching onto both personally and professionally and what isn't. As I push 40 I finally can say I feel like a grown up. Perhaps that time comes for everyone. Perhaps it does not. Never stop evolving, people. Don't let yourself get stuck somewhere in life.




  • Depended on where you looked. I'm not certain if it just became more fractured after the fall(s) and ownership change(s) or if those who always pulled for others simply walked away, leaving behind only those who resemble the initial remarks here.

  • Tim McVey I walked away. Many others have done the same, for the same reason. The 80's were better. No internet. No message boards. Face to face, or at least on the phone was how communication was conducted. Now it's he said, she said, they said...and shit gets twisted along the way more often than not.

    Not everybody was best friends. There were a few I honestly didn't care for, and I'm sure others felt the same way about them, or even me...Not everybody likes everybody, regardless of the when, where, or why. That's just life.

    But I definitely don't recall the back biting, back stabbing, antics I see so prevalent today. A simpler time perhaps?

  • Dan Tearle What I have found is that the people that truly love not just games, but the entire culture surrounding them are the most genuine people, who don't judge. They just enjoy a common denominator. Back then it was simpler for sure.

Like Jeff Yee for example, claiming he got 6 million on Pac Man. He appeared on TV shows, and was given a diamond ring from President Reagan, and all based on total BS.

  • Patrick Scott Patterson Perhaps, Tim ... or perhaps an example of how some can act in a constantly connected world. Impossible to know, really, if this is how people have always been or not. I can certainly understand wishing to distance oneself from others, as there's no way to ever be all arm-in-am and singing songs in any type of community. Carrying chips on the shoulder, however... I simply don't understand... nor the one-sided "rivalries" that some seem to try to force on others who simply don't care enough to engage in it.

  • Aaron Laberge I see your point PSP, but I want to challenge you with some opposition on this for the sake of the point. I also saw this week, numerous congratulatory posts directored towards people achieving new scores, some friendly discussion about the ethics or competition at tournaments and people complimenting others on their competitive composure and a good number of people joking back and fourth about pretend rivalries.

    Point being, we focus SO much on the negativity within the scene that we are all (yourself and myself included) responsible for the bad image we project on it.

    There are some people who I started following for their insight on the scene who have become so consistently dramatic and toxic that I had to stop reading their posts. There is a lot of egos and victim complexes in our scene and I for one cannot understand why when you consider how many amazingly talented and friendly people inhabit it, most of whom have been fantastic when I've met them in person, especially at the Funspot tourney.

    It seems like so many in our community have relegated themselves to a position of being helpless victims, who empower the trolls and unfriendly aspects of the community by talking about them ceaselessly (I am not targetting you specifically here, but I'm sure you know what I mean). I just feel as though if we focused more on the positive aspects of our community we would be doing all of ourselves a favor.

    For example, I know that William McEvoy did a recent cover for his Arcade Culture Magazine project that specifically features shots of smiling Nick Lombardo.

    I've met Nick at the Funspot tourney and I've seen him every year I've been there and every year he is the same happy dude that is willing to talk openly to anyone about our shared passion. I thought it was great that Bill highlighted Nick, because it's something positive about the scene to talk about and Nick is awesome because he's always got a big smile and a ton of enthusiasm.

    I guess the sum total of what I'm saying is this, the problem with the scene is not the people in it, because we have a ton of amazingly talented and skilled people and PLENTY of well adjusted and enthusiastic people who share this hobby, the problem is the people and things we choose to focus on.

    Don't take this as a dig at you, because I think you do a great job at being diverse with your discussions, it's just something that has been bothering me for awhile, we tend to demonize ourselves far more than any of the macho bravado types ever have and I think we need to stop.

If anything, it should be telling that my 90 minute look around Facebook and forums only saw the negative posts I reference standing center stage while the positive ones you note were apparently buried. It's not me focusing on the negative... I'm simply remarking on what pops out there at a glance. Any positive stuff was buried in those places.

  • Patrick Scott Patterson It does, in a way. I've learned that lesson the hard way a few times myself. Some who insist that I say or do negative things all the time typically point to something that was often the only such thing I did that day, week or month... and that's likely because, at a glance, it was the only thing they saw.

  • Cat DeSpira Strange to see this post. I had a late night conversation about TG and, couldn't sleep afterwards. I have been up all night, haunted, sad and genuinely emotionally reflective about what I see and hear in the community; people claiming it fell because the people involved before were unfit for service; people claiming some divine wisdom of how to run it having never been in the driver seat once in their entire life (wake up call coming); people claiming they care about TG while tearing it down presently on forums and podcasts; people claiming they care who never supported it to begin with until dollar signs appeared; people who worked against it for years and who spent most of their time and energy harassing others who gave their heart and soul to it and to them; and people -good people- gamers who still come to me for help and I help them because I care...I still care so very much about them. And I always will. They are perpetual sunlight in shadow-times to me. Thank god they make up the bulk of this wonderful community.

    I'll tell anyone willing to listen and understand, that Twin Galaxies is a heartbreaker. You better be stronger than you've ever been to handle it. With some gamers in the community, it's like having a person in your life you can never give enough to, never sacrifice enough for, never comfort enough and who will constantly slap you down every time you bend to serve them. Meanwhile, there is always a crowd of negative onlookers judging and finding fault with just how you bent and knelt down, what angle...and even how long it took you, instantaneously damning you the moment you bend that knee yet waiting to tear you apart when you don't.

    It's an insatiable entity. There is a reason why anyone who ever sat in the driver seat walked away in pain.

Being on the TG staff in an active capacity is a situation where you are going to get your ass kicked every day... no matter how you go about doing things. Not an easy place to be under any ownership. People can only know how true that is with direct experience.
